Peter T. Schmelzer, AIA, LEED AP, CPHC is a licensed Minnesota architect with more than 30 years of experience leading complex architectural projects from concept through construction. His work is grounded in strategic thinking, collaborative leadership, and a deep commitment to building science and sustainability.

Over the course of his career, Peter has administered more than $500 million in construction contracts, specializing in award-winning multi-family housing, senior living, assisted living, and commercial design. He has served in senior leadership roles at respected architectural firms, guiding projects across Minnesota while mentoring teams and elevating firm-wide standards for quality control and documentation.

Sustainable Design
Peter is especially passionate about sustainable design. As a sustainability practitioner and advocate, he has led research comparing high-performance building standards, helped guide firms through sustainability action planning, and participated in state-level policy discussions around sustainability benchmarks in Minnesota housing.

Over 120 projects
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Peter founded and led his own architectural practice, completing more than 100 residential, liturgical, and light commercial projects. He holds a Master of Architecture from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from St. John’s University, where the campus architecture of Marcel Breuer first drew him toward the built environment.
